Jialing Factory Archive | Motorcycle Memory

Keep three things separate: the 1979 CJ50 account, the PA50 comparison, and formal cooperation with Honda from 1981. A close chronology does not make them the same claim.

An industry study links Jialing’s early 50 cc project in 1979 to reverse engineering a Honda PA50. Honda’s own history confirms the later cooperation, but not the PA50–CJ50 model link.

Treat this as an inference to be tested, not as Honda confirming that the CJ50 copied the PA50. The Super Cub is not the bike under discussion.

What is still missing: Jialing measurement notes, a sample-bike list, or a Honda record that names the two models.

The Chongqing local chronicle records the Jialing CJ50 as a 49 cc single-cylinder two-stroke with a belt-drive CVT; the exact engine type is still to be verified.

Displacement and powertrain type are backed by the Chongqing chronicle; the exact engine type still needs a factory manual or parts drawing.

A Jialing factory manual or parts drawing is still needed to pin the exact engine type.

Honda’s official history records three points: an industrial delegation from China visited Honda in 1979; technical cooperation with Jialing began in 1981; the JH50 programme followed.

The formal cooperation from 1981 cannot be used backwards to prove earlier measurement or copying.

The full technical agreement is not public.

Yamaha’s chronology is straightforward: technical assistance to Jianshe in 1983, CY80 production in 1984, and a joint venture from 1992.

This chronology currently comes from Yamaha’s side. Jianshe records are still needed for comparison.

No suitable public technical archive from Jianshe has yet been added.
